Historic Record for September 2026 Patch Tuesday With 973 Vulnerabilities Fixed
Microsoft set a new historic record by releasing fixes for as many as 973 vulnerabilities in the September 2026 Patch Tuesday, far surpassing the previous record of 664 updates in July. Among the flaws addressed, 113 are classified as "critical" and affect key components such as Skype for Business, MSMQ, and RRAS. Microsoft confirmed that two of these flaws are already being actively exploited in real-world attacks ("zero-days"), while another 58 have a high likelihood of being exploited in the near future. Experts recommend giving top priority to applying patches related to privilege escalation and remote code execution. This extraordinary volume of fixes highlights the constant pressure on security teams facing a rapidly evolving threat landscape.
