European AI sovereignty is becoming a strategic issue in finance, defense and healthcare

Agenda Digitale argues that Europe is unlikely to become fully independent from the US and China in AI, but it can still build sovereignty where it matters most. The article points to finance, defense and healthcare as the sectors where control over data, operating models and supply chains is most strategically important. A companion piece says dual-use technologies are becoming a sovereignty problem because civilian tools can be rapidly converted into military capabilities. Together, the two articles frame AI as both an industrial asset and a geopolitical exposure. For Italian decision makers, that means vendor choice, architecture and data residency are no longer purely technical decisions. They also affect strategic autonomy, resilience and future regulatory leverage.
